Around 2015, after her child finished Year 9 in China, the family found us through our partner network in China. The mother came to Melbourne with her child, and our first job was to find them a rental and help them settle in.
The family looked at the timeline ahead: three years of senior secondary school, three years of undergraduate study and two years of postgraduate study — about eight years in Melbourne. Renting for that long meant facing a new lease, and possibly a new move, every year.
The mother decided to make a home close to the school. With the help of New Pathway Real Estate, the family chose a one-bedroom apartment in the Melbourne CBD, near RMIT. Along the way we helped them shortlist properties that matched their budget and needs, and connected them with professionals for finance, legal and settlement matters — so their first property purchase overseas felt manageable.
Once her child started an undergraduate degree at RMIT, the mother's visa came to an end and she returned to China. Her child stayed on in the apartment through to the end of a postgraduate degree, and then went home to work.
With the whole family back in China, the apartment has been leased and managed by New Pathway Real Estate for the past three to four years. Its central location has made leasing straightforward. Each month the rent is settled into the owner's nominated account, and our Melbourne team looks after everything from repairs to day-to-day matters, then keeps the owner informed in Chinese. This owner's work and family are in Sydney, but he has always liked Melbourne and wanted to buy here. Searching online, he came across New Pathway Group: based in the Melbourne CBD, starting from education services, and also handling property sales, leasing and ongoing management. So he got in touch.
With the help of New Pathway Real Estate, he chose a townhouse near Monash University. Close to campus, it has seen steady demand from tenants, and leasing has been straightforward.
Since the purchase, the townhouse has been leased and managed by New Pathway Real Estate for five or six years. He travels a great deal, sometimes in Sydney and sometimes overseas, but the property is never something he has to chase. He receives a rental report every month, and our Melbourne team handles finding tenants, renewals, repairs and everything else that comes up during a tenancy.
